SOUTH BANK OF BUFFALO BAYOU FROM MONTROSE BRIDGE LOOKING EAST AT THE DOWNTOWN HOUSTON SKYLINE.

The client was planning to renovate and widen Brays Bayou.  The project would span 10-years with an estimated construction cost of $500M.
The client contracted ALS, Inc. to provide the
base mapping survey that would support renovations and widening in response to long
term flooding problems in the area that were highlighted by Tropical Storm Allison in June of 2001.

The project’s scope of work included services necessary to set aerial control points and connect to baselines or other survey control monuments established by others.  ALS, Inc. obtained new aerial photography and mapped thirty miles of Brays Bayou between the Houston Ship Channel and Highway 6 running through the Houston Medical Center.

Because of dense foliage and bridges, ground survey was also conducted.  Ground survey crews were required to conduct survey activities in several secure areas and occasionally by boat.  ALS, Inc. deployed three survey crews simultaneously to adhere to client deadlines.
